Rochdale Inner Wheel Club

The Inner Wheel 'Wheels Project'

In January, 2014, Inner Wheel celebrated its 90th anniversary.  To mark the milestone, all clubs contributed to a "Wheels Project", which involved donating wheeled items to a local or international charity.

Rochdale Inner Wheel members donated two bicycles to go to Jole (pronounced jolly) Riders, an educational charity working in Africa to improve access to schooling, and a mobility aid which has gone to a local nursing home.  We hope to cover the costs of handing over  the bike to Jole Riders by collecting old keys - amazing what value is lurking in your drawers and cupboards.

Our main donation was been to the Heywood Children's  Contact Centre,  which allows children who have had to be removed from their families because of neglect or abuse,  to have supervised access to their families .  At our Christmas meeting, we had a special raffle, prizes including a weekend away in Filey and large Christmas hampers, filled with donations from members.  This raised enough to buy five scooters of varying sizes, small cars and a hoopla game.  Spare cash was spent on liquorice wheels!  We were very touched to find several children had sent us thank-you cards.  But the pleasure was really ours!

Meeting times

We meet every 4th Wednesday of the month for a meal followed by the formal meeting, including fund raising planning and often a speaker.     6.30pm for 7.00 pm for a meal then the meeting

During the Coronovirus lock down, we have suspended our regular meetings.  But the club executive committee is meeting as usual, albeit on line. to discuss when and how we will start up again.  The book group has also moved on line temporarily and our monthly newsletter is still being produced to keep us all in touch.
